Pura Fibra

Pura Fibra is a Canadian jiu-jitsu brand making premium gear in Brazil. This is our story.

Some things are inherited without ever being taught.

01Roots

My father skating the Deli Skate ramp in Lima
Deli Skate, Lima

My father lived sport as a way of life — surfing, skating, cycling, tennis, martial arts.

We absorbed what he lived.

Years later, I started seeing the same thing in my own children.

Movement keeps passing forward.

02From Movement to Community

Utah, 2007 — MMA

What I inherited became the way I lived.

I grew up in Vancouver skating, wrestling and fighting. Muay Thai took me to Thailand. Jiu-jitsu took me to Brazil.

I came back to Vancouver and built Alliance Vancouver.

What started with training became a community of students, coaches, competitors and black belts.

Pura Fibra grew out of that world.

03The Gear

We make what we want to train in.

Black gi, black shorts and stacked Pura Fibra rashguards

Pura Fibra makes gis, rashguards, fight shorts and training apparel for jiu-jitsu.

Our attention goes into the fabric, fit, construction and the details that matter once training starts.

CO-FOUNDER

  • Brazilian-born
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada
  • Business Administration
  • Production & Operations

Pura Fibra was never built by one person.

Camila is my wife and co-founder. A Brazilian-born Professional Engineer in Canada with a background in business administration, she leads the production and operational side of Pura Fibra.

I tend to approach the product from the athlete, fabric and design side.

Camila brings engineering, process and discipline.

Inside the work, not beside it.

We wanted to understand how it was actually made.

Large sewing floor with rows of workstations and workers
Industrial weaving machinery producing fabric
Textile laboratory testing equipment on a counter

We didn’t want to simply put our name on gear.

We spent time inside factories learning how garments move through production, then went further upstream into the fabric itself — weaving, construction and testing.

The deeper we went, the clearer it became that quality had to be understood, measured and repeated.

We are still learning.

That is part of the point.

Eventually, learning how things were made became a decision to build the capability ourselves.

THE NEXT CHAPTER WAS BRAZIL.

05Built in Brazil

When we decided to build manufacturing ourselves, we moved to Itu, São Paulo.

The location put us between Americana’s textile industry and the suppliers and market of São Paulo, while making the 900 m² space we needed financially viable.

Then we had to build it.

The rough, mostly empty 900 square metre building before factory setup

THIS IS WHERE WE STARTED.

900 M². MOSTLY EMPTY.

The equipment started arriving.

Machines, electrical work, production areas and workflow all had to be built around an empty space.

There is a big difference between visiting a factory and building one.

WHAT WE BUILT.

The sewing floor with machinists working at their machines
Tajima multi-head embroidery department with organized garments
Cutting table with organized garment panels and rolls of fabric

Today, Pura Fibra develops and produces in our own 900 m² facility in Itu.

Product development, cutting, sewing, embroidery and sublimation operate under one roof.

We manufacture Pura Fibra here, as well as custom work for academies, teams and other brands.

We work with specialist textile partners for processes including weaving, dyeing and finishing.

Owning a factory gives us direct responsibility for how our products are developed and made — without pretending every process happens inside our building.

This is only the beginning.

Pura Fibra has been built alongside family, teammates, athletes, employees, customers, suppliers and friends.

To everyone who has been part of it so far: thank you.

Keep rolling.
